So all the 3rd Round matches have been completed. The biggest seed to fall on the women's tour is Samantha Stosur the 5th seed. She was defeated by Petra Kvitova who seems to be becoming the next Czech threat after Nicole Vaidisova. Shuai Peng continued her form beating Ayumi Morita and will now face the 12th seed Agnieszka Radwanska. It'd be interesting to see who will go on to play in the 4th Round, most likely, against Kim Clijsters who is surely the favourite to win the title now. Nadia Petrova lost against Ekaterina Makarova, not shocking considering Petrova hasn't been playing too well recently. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova also lost to Iveta Benesova, another threat I mentioned in the lower half of the draw. However I doubt that Benesova will be able to beat Zvonareva in the 4th Round. Finally the toughest match up is probably Petra Kvitova Vs. Flavia Pennetta. I love Flavia but I think Kvitova might win this.
On the men's draw both Mikhail Youzhny and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lost against unseeded opponents. Mikhail Youzhny lost to Milos Raonic, in only his second grand slam, whilst Tsonga was beaten in 5 sets against Alexandr Dolgopolov. Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray both made it safely through to Round 4. Rafael Nadal beat local boy Bernard Tomic 6-2,7-5,6-3 whilst Murray thrashed Guillermo Garcia Lopez 6-1,6-1,6-2. Nadal will now have to beat Marin Cilic to make the QFs, Cilic beat Isner in a tight 5 sets. I think Nadal should be safely through to the SFs as his next opponent, after Cilic, shouldn't be a problem, unless of course he loses to Cilic. Soderling also won a very simple fashion 6-3,6-1,6-4. It's very possible that one of the SFs will be between Soderling and Murray as Murray will face Melzer, somebody he is very familiar with.
