ASB Classic

The Tennis Season is back on track. It seems like ages since Novak Djokovic lifted the Season Ending trophy, but this post is on the ASB Classic won by Lindsay Davenport last year (isn't it amazing she's having another child!). Sadly the draws haven't been posted yet but the we know the 23 direct entries.
Elena Dementieva the World No.4 headlines the field with Russian compatriot Nadia Petrova taking 2nd seed. From the form of these two towards the end of 2008 it seems like the lineup is quite interesting. However looking further down I don't see many players of particular interest in terms of winning the title. Of course we'd get to see a plethora of young and older players in the draw. Caroline Wozniacki could pack a punch whilst the more experienced Srebotnik and Medina Garrigues could shock but I doubt it. However Nicole Vaidisova the 8th Seed is my favourite. Though 2008 was one of her worst years I have confidence in her to get 2009 back on track and make it into the Top 20. There are also a few newbies to look out for but I'll definitely be patriotic cheering for Anne Keothavong who had a steller 2008 (in terms of British tennis!) The field also packs some players of interest and some dangerous dark horses like Kudryavtseva and Paszek, though both are in bad form they have shocked top players earlier in their careers.
Overall I think this would be an interesting tournament to see where everyone places in 2009.
