Brisbane and Auckland QF Stage

In Brisbane the Top 3 seeds are still standing - sadly Marion Bartoli is part of that mini elite. On the other hand Amelie Mauresmo has scraped through her last two matches. She beat Dokic in a very tight two sets 7-6(9), 7-6(5) and then struggled against Julie Coin 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(11). It's so sad to see Amelie at this stage of her career, she reached her highest and then literally dropped of the podium.
Bartoli will play Tathiana Garbin in the QF but to be honest whatever happens I doubt the eventual finalist from the top draw wouldn't be Ana Ivanovic because there is simply nobody in the top half of the draw that I think could take out a Top 10 even if it is Ana Ivanovic who took 3 sets to beat Roberta Vinci. Hantuchova continued her less than impress run - it's amazing how she continues to stay as a seed even with her weak performances. This has left two rising stars Sara Errani and Olga Govortsova to play for the semifinal position. Whilst Lucie Safavora will play Victoria Azarenka (my favourite player left in the draw).
In Auckland Nicole Vaidisova lost to Elena Vesnina; I'm getting increasingly impatient with Nicole because I don't know what is happening to her, she was such a talent in 2007 but it all left in 2008 - the doomed year for many! This time losing to Elena Vesnina is not going to help her spring back in 2009; though no disrespect to Vesnina, losing to someone who has never felt any trophy success isn't really a good start to the year. However at least Anne Keothavong makes me proud - at this rate Anne will surpass Nicole in rankings! I just hope Nicole will improve quickly as even Shahar Peer who had a bad year in 2008 is doing OK in this tournament.
